Creative Workshops in Norfolk: When Everything Feels Like A Bit Much

Our creative workshops in Norfolk are not just about learning a new skill; they offer something much more valuable. A chance to pause, step away from the noise of everyday life, and reconnect with your creativity in a calm, welcoming space.
There is a particular moment I recognise in myself.
It usually arrives quietly, somewhere in the middle of a busy stretch. Nothing has gone wrong. Everything is, technically, fine. But there is a feeling that things have become just a little bit too full.
Too many tabs open. Too many things being held in your head at once. Too many small decisions stacked on top of each other.
It is not dramatic. It is just… a bit much.
This last week, while my boys have been off school, I have been trying to catch up on some of those bigger admin jobs that have been quietly waiting in the background. And yet, despite technically being “on holiday”, I still have not made time to finish putting my lampshades together… or done any knitting… or, in fact, any making at all.
And I have noticed, over time, that this is often the exact moment we decide we cannot possibly take any time out for ourselves.
“I will just get through this week.”“I will think about that later.”“I have not really got the space for it right now.”
But the truth is, that feeling rarely disappears on its own.
And this is where making comes in.
Not as something else to achieve, but as a pause. A few hours where everything is prepared for you. Where the kettle is on, the table is laid, and all you need to do is arrive.
Week after week, I see the same gentle shift.

People arrive carrying the pace of everything else with them. And then, gradually, something softens. Hands begin to move. Conversation settles. Laughter appears. And somewhere along the way, everything feels a little lighter.
And because I know that when things feel like this, even deciding what to choose can feel like one thing too many, the workshops pages on the website have recently been redesigned to make this easier.
You can now browse by type, by mood, or simply scroll through what is coming up and see what catches your eye.
If you are looking for a gentle place to begin, there are several upcoming workshops that offer exactly this kind of pause. A half-day block printing workshop with Sue Welfare offers a calm, rhythmic way to settle your mind through pattern and repetition.
A fused glass workshop with Louise Down provides a quiet, absorbing afternoon working with colour, light, and composition.
And a mark making workshop with Penny Lindop gives you the freedom to explore without pressure, focusing purely on process rather than outcome.
You do not need to choose perfectly.
You just need to choose one.
