Gentle Steps into the New Year with Creative Workshops in Norfolk

January is often described as a fresh start, but at Reef Make & Do it feels more like a quiet unfolding. The light begins to change almost without us noticing, the days stretch just a little, and there is a gentle sense that things are starting to stir. This in-between moment, where nothing feels rushed yet there is energy building, is one of my favourite times of year for creativity.
Here at Reef Make & Do, there is that same feeling too. After a slower start to the year, the diary is beginning to fill again, tables are being laid out, and there is a quiet excitement as the first creative workshops of the year take shape. It feels like the right moment to gently begin.
If you are new here, or if you have been following along for a while and quietly wondering whether to come along to a workshop, this is your sign that now is a lovely time to start. There is no need to arrive with experience or confidence. Curiosity is always enough, and you will be warmly welcomed.

I am especially delighted to be introducing two wonderful makers who will be joining us over the coming weeks, each bringing a calm, thoughtful approach to their craft. In early February we welcome florist Katie Booty, from Verdant Flowers Norfolk, who grows her own flowers and willow for a dried flower wreath workshop. Katie’s work is deeply rooted in the seasons and the landscape around her, and this workshop is all about slowing down, working with natural materials, and creating something beautiful to take home. It feels like a perfect way to mark this turning point in the year.

Later in the month, fused glass artist Louise Down will be joining us for a full day of glass making, split into two relaxed half-day sessions. In the morning, participants can choose to make a tea-light, sun catcher or coaster, gently exploring colour and light in an accessible way. In the afternoon, Louise teaches her self supporting wavy glass workshop, which is always a joy to watch as the glass takes shape. Louise is a wonderfully calm and encouraging teacher, and her workshops are ideal for beginners as well as those returning to glass.
As the year continues to unfold, there are many more workshops, makers and ideas waiting in the wings. Things are beginning to ramp up now, but always in a way that leaves room for cups of tea, conversation, and the quiet satisfaction that comes from making something with your own hands.
If any of these creative workshops catch your eye, or if you have been thinking about trying something new this year, I would love to welcome you. You can explore our full range of workshops, courses, and weekly classes on the website, or get in touch if you would like a gentle nudge in the right direction.
Here is to easing gently into the year ahead, one creative step at a time.
Warmest wishes,
Rachael x
