Come and join me for another lovely, mindful day of willow weaving with fabulous local basket maker Karen Bek.
At this workshop we will be getting ahead to create beautiful willow obelisks ready for planting your climbers in the spring. These obelisks make a stunning focal point in any garden swathed in sweet peas or clematis.
During the day you will learn a variety of different basketry techniques to make an obelisk. You will learn how to weave around strong willow uprights using a range of different willows to create attractive basket weave patterns or a spiral effect that will support and showcase your plants.
Karen is great fun as well as hugely patient and she will guide you through all the steps so that you go home with a fantastic obelisk. Karen grows a lot of her own willow on her allotment in Kings Lynn and you may well get to include some of this in your obelisk. All other willow is sourced in the UK.
The obelisks can be made to heights between 4 and 6 feet high.
You do not need to bring anything with you as all materials will be provided, however, if you have a trusty, much loved pair of secateurs then do bring them if you wish.
