DEVELOPING YOUR PAINTING: FISH

  • 85 British pounds

Workshop Details

Date: Friday 19th April Times: 10am - 2pm Cost: £85 Venue: Stonegate, Egmere Road, Walsingham. As always at Reef Make & Do, refreshments as well as delicious homemade cakes and a two course lunch are included in your workshop day. I am delighted to offer another fabulous workshop with the very talented artist Mary Blue. It will be a day immersed in still life.. We will begin by looking at the life and works of both Pierre Bonnard and Chaim Soutine, both French painters. We will look at how they set up their still life work and also how they both use such bold colour which we will aim to replicate. To set up our piece we will place objects on the periphery of the table, in a similar fashion to Bonnard, trying to activate the centre of the page. We will focus on Bonnard's painting of a fish on a plate and will create our own fishy creations! Mary’s style of teaching encourages visual empathy. She believes that art is not a matter of imparting rules, styles, or techniques, but of leading students to a greater awareness of what they are seeing. We will finish the day with a well deserved tea break and casually gather to show our handmade books and discuss what we learned, how our observations informed our mark making and general thoughts on the assembly of our books.
