PENNY LINDOP
Artist
Penny Lindop creates loose, expressive, semi-abstract paintings in watercolour and mixed media, inspired by the valley fens, flowers, and natural forms surrounding her home on the Norfolk/Suffolk border. Her work draws together threads from her past as an archaeologist, textile designer, and greeting card publisher — all united by a love of surface, pattern, and the quiet beauty of small things.
Since turning to painting full-time in 2019, Penny has found deep inspiration in the landscape just beyond her door — the soft light over the fens, the shifting colours of reeds and grasses, and the delicate details of feathers, twigs, and wildflowers. These elements find their way into her paintings, becoming marks, textures, and gestures that echo her daily walks.
Mark making lies at the heart of Penny’s practice. Using found objects gathered on her walks — a stem, a stone, a feather — she explores how each can create unique patterns and rhythms. This playful, tactile approach invites freedom and connection, helping her — and those she teaches — to find their own authentic visual language.
In her workshops, Penny shares this way of working as both a creative and mindful practice. Participants are encouraged to slow down, to experiment without judgement, and to discover how mark making can loosen their hand, open their imagination, and bring a sense of calm presence to their art.
