MARY BLUE
Artist / Painter
Mary Blue is a contemporary painter, originally from the USA and now living and working in North Norfolk.
Her paintings, which start as sketches plein air, reflect upon the impermanence of life and the forces of nature. Words are important in Mary's work and she weaves poetry into her painted landscapes; layers of jewel-toned colours exposing the overlooked and hidden. Her paintings of coastal tidelands encourage viewers to see and feel themselves part of this landscape, inspiring others to help understand, identify and steward life in the natural world.
Mary received a Master of Fine Arts in Painting from the University of Pennsylvania in 1989 where she studied with Neil Welliver, Bill Jacklin, Harmony Hammond and Red Grooms. She also studied at the Vermont Studio, the Maryland Art Institute, and Ecole des Arts d’Avignon France.Â
Her work is exhibited widely in galleries along the Norfolk coast, in London and abroad. She has been selected for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 2023 and for the Holt Festival Sir John Hurt Art Prize three years running.  Mary is also a well respected artist educator running workshops for the young and young at heart. Â
