MARIAN MAY
Textiles Artist
With no formal training in art, I have explored a few genres and techniques. It was wet felting that first really caught me up in the passion for the medium, when I discovered the joy of painting with wool, creating wearable art pieces such as shawls, hats, scarves. It’s my love of colour and the natural world around me that show up as my consistent themes: the shifting landscapes of the Suffolk coast and the stunning beauty of English gardens.Â
Then during 2020, when many people put their courses online, I was able to learn the art of botanical printing. Since then I’ve developed a practice of printing during the spring to autumn months, switching back to felt making in the winter. I’m always exploring the dye characteristics of plants as well as growing my own garden of natural colour and leaf shapes for my printing. I source as much as I can from the local environment, and also teach workshops in both felt making and botanical printing in Suffolk.
Marian teaches wonderful botanical printing workshops as well as wet felting.
