GARRY MEEHAN
Leather Worker
Hello, I am Garry, founder of Rye Hide, and I feel very fortunate to be part of the North Norfolk community, where my family has lived and worked along the coast for more than seven generations.
My working life has taken me down several different paths, from working with young offenders through outdoor pursuits, to fifteen years as an arborist, followed by sixteen years as a Geography Teacher and Head of Enrichment in South London. Running through all of those roles has been a love of practical skills, creativity, working with people and sharing what I know.
Leathercraft brings all of those things together. I love working with natural materials and traditional techniques to create useful, timeless pieces that develop their own character and patina as they are used and loved.
I have now delivered more than 200 workshops for adults and young people, sharing the skills of leatherworking and encouraging people to discover the enormous satisfaction that comes from making something with their own hands.
In my workshops, you will learn traditional leatherworking techniques and create your own piece by hand using beautiful natural materials. The aim is not only to make something useful, personal and built to last, but to enjoy the process of slowing down, learning a new skill and making something properly.
Rooted in Norfolk. Made to be used, loved and last.
