MIXED MEDIA COLLAGE

The Beauty of the Commonplace

  • 65 British pounds

Workshop Details

Date: Friday 10th May Times: 10am - 2pm Cost: £85 Venue: Stonegate Farm, Egmere Road, Walsingham. As always at Reef Make & Do refreshments as well as cakes and a two course lunch are always included in your workshop day. Join us for another wonderful day of creativity and joy with artist Mary Blue when we will be making mixed media images from everyday, common place objects. We will begin with a talk about mixed media artists such as Joseph Cornell, Robert Rauchenberg, Anselm Keifer and Paula Rego and look at how they incorporate the everyday into their art. We will also discuss the various techniques like assemblage, collage, found objects, wet and dry media, and altered books. Let’s think about combining elements of newspaper, magazines, stamps, scraps of letters, cereal boxes, anything you can think of assembling objects you have collected into a collage. Bring anything you like from home or out and about that you might like to use in your collage. Our works will be based on everyday experiences, and we will be emphasising the beauty of the commonplace. Mary’s style of teaching encourages visual empathy. She believes that art is not a matter of imparting rules, styles, or techniques, but of leading students to a greater awareness of what they are seeing. We will finish the day with a well deserved tea break and casually gather to show our collages and discuss what we learned, how our observations informed our work.
