LANDSCAPE PAINTING

Seeing More in the Landscape

  • 85 British pounds

Workshop Details

Date: Thursday 6th June Time: 10am - 2pm Cost: £85 Venue: Stonegate, Egmere Road, Walsingham. As always refreshments as well as delicious homemade cakes and a two course lunch are included in your workshop day. Join me for another wonderful workshop with Mary Blue when she will be teaching us al about creating landscapes. We will begin by looking at the works of David Tress and John Piper as well as Mary's own landscapes. These will help us to think about use of colour and shapes and how they define the landscapes. Landscape painting is one of the great strengths of British art. We accept nature as the raw material through which we express pictorial emotion. By studying nature we can discover our own emotions and translate them into paint. We will be sketching from life in the morning then creating an acrylic painting on paper after lunch using your sketch and visual memory. Mary’s style of teaching encourages visual empathy. She believes that art is not a matter of imparting rules, styles, or techniques, but of leading students to a greater awareness of what they are seeing. We will finish the day with a well deserved tea break and casually gather to show our paintings and discuss what we learned, how our observations informed our mark making and general thoughts.
