Collage Creators How far can a pile of paper take you? In this imaginative and creative workshop, children will discover how artists use cutting, tearing, layering and arranging paper to create extraordinary artworks. Starting with simple collage techniques and gradually building confidence throughout the day, we will explore how paper can be transformed into anything we can imagine. We will begin by creating richly textured collage backgrounds using torn strips of coloured, patterned and recycled papers. Along the way we will experiment with layering, overlapping and combining different textures to create depth and interest. Next, children will design and create an imaginary bird using collage techniques. Through demonstration and guided exploration, we will learn how artists use torn paper, cut shapes, patterned papers, stickers and found materials to suggest feathers, wings, movement and personality. Our second project will focus on the everyday objects we see around us. Looking at familiar food packaging such as cereal boxes, ketchup bottles, mustard jars and other household favourites, children will create bold collage studies that celebrate colour, shape, branding and design. For our final challenge, children will create a true collage masterpiece. Using everything they have learned throughout the day, they can choose to create a portrait of a beloved pet, a favourite fruit or vegetable, or another carefully observed subject. By layering papers, textures, colours and details, they will build a richly detailed artwork before creating a handmade card frame to complete their finished piece. Throughout the day we will explore colour, texture, composition and observation while discovering how artists can create remarkable images from the simplest materials. Suitable for ages 8 to 15. No experience needed. All materials provided. Please bring a packed lunch, a named water bottle and two small snacks. Children should wear clothes suitable for art activities.
