CHRISTINA COOPER
Sugar Craft Artist
In 1987, after moving to Germany, I started to make cakes for family occasions. Friends and acquaintances asked me to make cakes for them too, which led to a wedding cake business, which I worked on for over 15 years where we lived in Cologne. Interest in the English style of cake decorating and sugar craft from bakers and patissiers grew, and together with a small group of like-minded friends, we led to its development in Germany, organising cake shows and demonstrating various sugar craft techniques.
Many of those who started their sugar craft journey with us, went on to win many medals at Cake International, the largest cake decorating exhibition in the world, held every year at the NEC Birmingham, UK. I had previously attended the Cordon Bleu School in London following this up later with courses with Paddi Clark and Eddie Spence OBE, well-known figures in the world of sugarcraft. Then came a further course with Cordon Bleu, dealing specifically with cake decorating.
For nearly fifteen years I have been an Accredited Demonstrator and Tutor for ComboCutters (formerly Patchwork Cutters), particularly useful and multi-faceted cutters for sugarcrafters. On my return to the UK, after 26 years in Germany, I have been an Accredited Demonstrator for the British Sugarcraft Guild.
