Come and join me at Reef Make & Do with basket maker Karen Bek for this wonderful workshop day when we will be making beautiful willow frame baskets.
These frame baskets are so versatile - I use mine daily for fruit as well as at parties. You My basket in the photos is quite flat - more like a platter - but you can make your basket more deep if you prefer.
This workshop is open to all from beginners to experienced willow enthusiasts.
Karen is an experienced basket maker and is passionate about sharing this ancient craft. She will guide us in how to select appropriate material for the basket and then guide us through each step of the basket making process. During the day you will learn:
- how / where the willow is grown
- where to source willow for your own use
- the difference between dried and fresh willow
- creating decorative effects with willow patterns and colours
Willow weaving can be quite hard on then hands so some dexterity and strength is needed.
