Service Description

Paper Cut Wild Animals Can you transform a simple sheet of paper into a striking wild animal portrait? In this fascinating workshop, children will explore the art of layered paper cutting, creating beautiful wildlife artworks inspired by the work of Colombian artist María Ponce. Using photographs of wild animals as inspiration, we will study shapes, shadows, markings and facial features to understand how artists use layers to build depth, detail and character. Children will learn how to simplify complex images into a series of cut paper shapes that can be stacked and combined to create impressive finished artworks. Working with carefully selected coloured papers, they will design and cut multiple layers before assembling them into striking portraits of their chosen animal. From lions and tigers to wolves, foxes, owls and snow leopards, every artwork will be unique. Throughout the day we will explore composition, colour, positive and negative space, and the importance of careful observation when creating realistic artwork. This workshop is perfect for children who enjoy drawing, design and working carefully with their hands. No previous experience is needed and all materials are provided. Please bring a packed lunch, a named water bottle and two small snacks. To help keep energy levels steady, we ask that snacks do not include chocolate, sweets or fizzy drinks. Children should wear clothes suitable for art activities.
