Workshop Details

Date: Thursday 5th September Time: 10am - 3pm Cost: £95 As always at Reef Make & Do, refreshments as well as delicious homemade cakes and a two course lunch are included in your workshop day. I am delighted to offer this lovely mindful workshop to Reef Make & Do with the very talented artist Mary Blue. It will be a day immersed in nature. Mary’s style of teaching encourages visual empathy. She believes that art is not a matter of imparting rules, styles, or techniques, but of leading students to a greater awareness of what they are seeing. During the day, you will try out new ways of layering paint, paper folding and learn a little about the history of bookmaking all in a fabulously creative setting in Walsingham, North Norfolk. We will begin with sketching our impressions of the landscape whilst out and about. When we return to the house Mary will teach us how to turn our mornings sketches into a long painting using ink, pencils, watercolour and then break for a well deserved lunch. In the afternoon we will fold our papers and then learn how to assemble our beautiful books. We will finish the day with a well deserved tea break and casually gather to show our handmade books and discuss what we learned, how our observations informed our mark making and general thoughts on the assembly of our books.
