Circles, Spirals & Swirls
Tuesday 11th August 10am-4pm
Service Description
Circles, Spirals & Swirls What can you create from one of the simplest shapes of all? In this colourful and creative workshop, children will explore the wonderful world of circles through painting, collage, weaving and paper sculpture. Inspired by artists such as Wassily Kandinsky, we will discover how simple shapes can be transformed into striking works of art. We will begin by experimenting with painted and collaged circles, creating vibrant artworks inspired by Kandinsky's famous circle paintings. Children will explore colour, pattern and composition while developing their own unique designs. Next, they will design and decorate their own circular card discs, transforming simple shapes into miniature artworks filled with pattern, texture and imagination. We will also experiment with circular weaving techniques to create colourful woven pieces using a variety of materials. For our final project, we will explore the fascinating world of folded paper art. Using collections of coloured paper circles, children will fold, layer and arrange shapes to create eye catching three dimensional artworks full of movement, rhythm and pattern. Those who prefer a flatter, graphic style can experiment with arranging and overlapping circles to create their own unique compositions. Throughout the day we will explore repetition, symmetry, pattern and colour while discovering just how many possibilities can be created from a single shape. This workshop is perfect for children who enjoy colour, pattern, design and creative experimentation. No previous experience is needed and all materials are provided. Please bring a packed lunch, a named water bottle and two small snacks. To help keep energy levels steady, we ask that snacks do not include chocolate, sweets or fizzy drinks. Children should wear clothes suitable for art activities.
