Further your knowledge about Botanical Printing and Natural Dyes in the Next Steps workshop with textile artist Marian May. NR25 7TH Come and discover how to create stunning botanical prints using fresh leaves and flowers on luxurious silk velvet, a fabric that truly shines. In this workshop, you’ll learn the unique technique of printing on silk velvet, which requires careful calculations to achieve delicate, beautiful prints. While this workshop may involve a bit more “science” and “maths” than previous botanical printing sessions, don’t let that put you off. These precise steps are key to achieving consistent, crisp prints and, don’t worry, all the recipes will be provided so you can recreate the process at home. During the workshop, you will create a vibrant, colourful silk velvet scarf using fresh leaves, natural dyes, and the special techniques that have made this process a favourite for botanical printers. You will also learn the important steps to prepare fabric for natural dyeing. We will explore different dye baths, including natural dye extracts and dye plants, and you will create your own unique dye bath to add your personal touch. Silk velvet is a truly luxurious fabric that shimmers in ways no photograph can capture. Once you’ve completed your scarf, you may choose to wear it, or perhaps display it as a beautiful wall hanging or mount it onto canvas to create a colourful piece of art for your home.
